Lipstick Queen - Big Bang Theory Lip Gloss

Poppy King the creator of Lipstick Queen just never fails to delight me. To date there is only one product she has ever released that I just couldn't recommend wholeheartedly. (Shine gloss with the yucky plasticy smell I am looking at you)

Her latest offering is Big Bang Theory Lip Gloss for $20 that comes in all the lovely shades pictured and in that cute little test tube package. These glosses were designed to give the look of plump lips with fine particle shimmer instead of the lip searing effects of some plumpers out there.

I tested all the colors at Barneys and my fav's are Creation, Energy, Cosmos, and Black Hole. Energy is just this amazing deep shimmery red that looks like a nail polish on the lips....and yes that is a good thing. Thankfully these do not have any fragrance and are just dang good shiny and shimmery gloss fun.

These can be found at Barneys or Lipstick Queen.

Lipstick Queen - Liner

As I have previously written, I heart Lipstick Queen and while I can not find fault with the line I have hoped and prayed that one day lip liners would be added that match the lipsticks. I worried that the day would never come because Poppy King seems to be a lipstick purest. I have no problem with that but some of her lipsticks are so perfect that finding equal perfection in liner form has been a challenge.

Well thank the good lord above because Poppy has heard my prayers and answered them with liners that are creamy, keep lipstick in place, and are indeed a perfect match for her lipsticks.

My favorite shade is Rose Saint and Sinner. Rose is pink without being Barbie or bubble gum. It is an adult pink that is bright but deep and perfect! Rose lip liner is equally perfect and I bought 3. One for my purse, one for my bathroom and a backup!

Lipstick Queen is available at Barneys and the liners are $18.

Lipstick Queen - Medieval

Lipstick Queen is a line of lip products that I love. For those that read this blog you will know of my great love of these flawless lipsticks. Poppy King the creator of Lipstick Queen has been adding to the lineup lately and Medieval is one of my favorite additions.

Medieval is a treatment and sheer blood red lip color in one. The idea behind the color is taken from medieval times when according to Poppy it was a sin for women to wear full color lipstick. Instead women would stain their lips with berries for color and that idea is the inspiration for Medieval.

Red lips are one of the hottest trends for fall but not everyone feels confident about wearing an opaque red lipstick. Medieval makes it easy to wiggle your toes in the pool without jumping in the deep end of this trend.

Medieval can be found at Barneys for $18.

Lessons of a Lipstick Queen - Book Review

As promised I am reporting back on this book I picked up about 2 weeks ago when I met Poppy King the creator of Lipstick Queen.

Lessons of a Lipstick Queen is part personal story and part business book. It makes for a fast read and Poppy King's writing voice is witty and fun.

I would be lying if I didn't admit that the "My Story" sections were my favorite. Poppy King wove paragraphs of her own journey and the creation of her brand into bigger lessons/observations about what did and didn't work and what she learned along the way. But it was the "My Story" paragraphs that had me feeling like one of those people who only eats the tops of muffins or the chocolate coating on ice cream...in other words a little glutinous.

I couldn't help it! It was fascinating to me how at 18 she went out and started a lipstick brand that was a multi-million dollar company within 2 years. I got such a kick out of the fact that when she wanted to find a company to manufacture her lipsticks she just picked up the phone book and started calling. It seems so obvious, one of those, why didn't I think of that moments!

Overall this is a fun read that anyone who loves makeup or ever nursed a dream to start a business will enjoy. Happy Reading!

Meeting the Lipstick Queen

On Monday night I met Poppy King the creator of Lipstick Queen. The book reading/lipstick fun was held at Elizabeth Charles on Fillmore in San Francisco. Poppy read excerpts from her book, Lessons of a Lipstick Queen and talked about her adventures along the way. She also helped you find your ideal lipstick color and would read your lips for some insight into your personality as well.

First Poppy King is darling! Truly, she looks like a vision of 50's glamour and is enchanting to speak to. I watched her make lipstick recommendations for lots of ladies and she was spot on. I was of course wearing one my favorite Lipstick Queen shades, Rose Sinner and I am happy to say she agreed with my color choice. Poppy was wearing Red Sinner, an opaque true red that screams retro chic. Along with her fitted Gwen Stefani dress, Red Sinner was a perfect choice.

My purchases for the night were her book, Pink Saint and the new Shine Gloss in Opal which is a rosy pink with shimmer. These glosses are super 70's with oversize pots and thicker texture. My only caution is the fragrance in Shine gloss is quite strong and may not be for everyone.

For those who are new to Lipstick Queen it's available at Barneys and is a sharply edited line of lipstick and gloss. I happen to love that the line is so specific and the colors are not endless variations on a theme. Lipstick Queen is not a rainbow of color but rather the best of each shade which is no small feat if you're asking me!

I am reading her book now and will review it when I am done. If you have the chance to meet Poppy and talk lipstick with her, don't pass it up as you will come away delighted!

Lipstick Queen

Are a saint or a sinner? In the Lipstick Queen collection that is the question.

Saint lipsticks are 10% pigment and while they are transparent they are loaded with color. I love the Saint colors because for a moisturizing formula they have great staying power.

Sinner lipsticks are 90% pigment by contrast and matte without being dry. They are pure color without frost or shimmer.

There are 10 colors with both a Saint or Sinner version available. I adore Rose (pictured) and Rouge in both formulas. Natural in Saint formula is a staple that never leaves my purse.

The line also includes matte lipgloss and traditional shiny lipgloss. The matte gloss may sound odd, but I assure you looks beautiful on.

This line in available at Barneys and very reasonably priced at $18 a tube. For this makeup junkie who is lipgloss obsessed this is lipstick at its very best.
